Clones
Our first project began with the brand itself, Emilio Moro’s disruptive idea which today brings us the best wines of the Tinto Fino grape variety. This project has been improved and optimised in cooperation with the University of León.
Geolocation
In 2009, a collaborative project was carried out for the geolocation and sensorisation of plots of land, a very innovative idea in those days when communications were quite precarious, as there were few plots where we had 3G coverage. The project, carried out together with Telefónica, consisted of the development of an asynchronous data transmission system. Today, thanks to improvements in these networks, it is an everyday technology.
Yeast
In 2011, in collaboration with the Complutense University of Madrid, we worked on the isolation and identification of indigenous yeasts with optimal oenological characteristics. This project was led internally by Patricia Sánchez Moro, general manager of Bodegas Emilio Moro.
Smart Vineyard
In 2014 we were immersed in an intelligent vineyard management project to obtain the maximum productive potential of the vine by optimising the critical processes of vineyard care. This project was developed in collaboration with the University of Navarra.
Peav
In 2018, together with the National Centre for Food Technology and Safety (CNTA) in Navarra, we investigated and evaluated the technical feasibility of using high-voltage electromagnetic pulses in wine. The technology consisted of applying intermittent electric fields of high intensity and short duration, which, focused on improving the winemaking process, favoured the extraction of relevant compounds, resulting in wines with a higher content of phenolic compounds and improved sensory characteristics.
Laboratory of ideas
During 2022 we took the first step towards the creation of a strong R&D&i department and, in addition, we created an Idea Lab. In this space, we debate and develop ideas that will lead us towards a winery that integrates research and innovation into its DNA. Work is already underway to develop projects to improve energy efficiency, sustainability and resilience to climate change.
Carbon footprint reduction projects
At Bodegas Emilio Moro we are committed to the responsible consumption of resources and respect for the environment. Therefore, in 2022, we started installing photovoltaic panels, which are already effectively reducing our energy consumption. In parallel, a project is being developed based on energy efficiency algorithms, creating an intelligent system with predictive models that adapt to the facilities and report our carbon footprint in real time. Moreover, with this model we can correct possible deviations and reduce the footprint in the shortest possible time.
VinIALog Project
Another challenge we are facing is the transformation and modernisation of the company. We have launched a research project based on wine storage management and efficient logistics working with Artificial Intelligence, which will allow us to produce in a more sustainable, faster and higher quality way. We seek to work on intelligent logistics that allows effective traceability throughout the value chain. In addition, we will work in a more energy-efficient environment, thereby reducing our environmental impact. We are proud to have launched this project that will generate value and create jobs in our town Pesquera de Duero.
