2021, an excellent vintage
The weather for the 2021 vintage was marked by light temperatures during the spring, accumulated rainfall in April and a summer with slightly lower temperatures than usual, which slowed down the plant’s growth cycle. At the beginning of autumn, rainfall was scarce, favouring the ripening of the grapes.
Power, character and structure
This wine comes from a selection of the winery’s oldest vineyards: 25 to 75-year-old vines that have retained all their essence and were rescued by the Moro family from the massive uprooting that took place in Pesquera del Duero last century. This gives this Ribera del Duero wine exceptional power and character. Malleolus demonstrates the perfect balance between ripeness and freshness, characteristics that the stony soils of the area give it.
A wine of distinction
Intense cherry red colour, with an intense bouquet of ripe black fruits and balsamic notes of cedar and tobacco. With time it expresses its intensity and complexity, developing hints of spices such as clove, without losing its fruity expression. Powerful, structured and intense on the palate, with great balance and amiable but intense passage.
A historic wine with deep roots. ‘Malleolus’ has marked a turning point in the designation of origin Ribera del Duero, moving away from the classification of wines according to their time in oak barrels and starting to value them according to their vintage. “Malleolus”, vineyard in Latin, the name given to the old vineyards in Pesquera de Duero, is an elegant wine, with great personality and a perfect balance between maturity and freshness.
The Emilio Moro labels stand out for their image of a medallion that tells the story of the family from its beginnings. On Malleolus we see a photo of Emilio Moro during the winemaking process in the family winery (1972).
