An extraordinary vintage
The year 2022 will be remembered for being dry and warm. The spring was characterised by scarce rainfall, which gradually disappeared in the summer months. Late rains arrived in August, which ensured the ripening of the grapes. It has been a warm year overall, but the microclimate of El Bierzo and the hillsides have mitigated the effects of the heat waves and have influenced the character and final quality of the harvest.
Open to ageing without forgetting the freshness of the Godello.
El Zarzal is made with temperature-controlled fermentation and subsequent ageing on the lees in 2,500-litre French oak vats for approximately 8 months.
The ripe fruit is perfectly integrated with the wood.
A very pale straw coloured wine. The bouquet combines the character of the 2022 vintage with the variety’s personality, delivering an eminently fruity wine with an extra intensity and richness. In the glass it evolves towards elegant notes of citrus zest and minerality. Well-balanced on the palate, this is a smooth, medium volume wine. Easy and fresh finish.
El Zarzal is a Godello white wine that from the first moment attracts the most select consumer due to the balance of the varietal’s own acidity and its freshness, vivacity and nuanced character.
Through a journey to the essence of El Bierzo, we have come across some of the traces that the inhabitants of the area left thousands of years ago in the form of cave paintings. This testimony, found on the walls of the Cueva del Moro, located a few kilometres from our winery in El Bierzo, has allowed Bodegas Emilio Moro to embark on a journey to the origins of this land and, thus, to get to know the singularity of El Bierzo represented in its landscape, its vineyards and, of course, in its wines. We have drawn inspiration from this legacy and extracted some of the figures that our ancestors represented and which, incredibly, have survived the passage of time to this day. Thousands of years later, the same land continues to bear fruit, and the connection with those ancestral generations remains.
