- The Ribera del Duero winery presents the new image of Emilio Moro, a unique opportunity to get to know first-hand a man who left an indelible mark.
- Emilio Moro 2021, the new vintage of the flagship of the Valladolid company, takes us back in time to connect with the traditions of the family winery.
Bodegas Emilio Moro is located in the heart of the Ribera de Duero, in a prime area of the ‘Golden Mile’. A family winery with more than 100 years of history that, with passion and dedication to the world of wine, seeks to fulfil the maxim that, vintage after vintage, guides them: to be a meeting point in which to inspire people through its essence.
The beginnings of the winery go back to Emilio Moro. Together with his father, with whom he shared not only a name but also a dream, he began to work with a single goal in mind: to produce great wines. To achieve this, the creator of the family winery opted for the path of hard work, effort and intuition, values that he managed to pass on to the following generations who currently run the winery in the Ribera del Duero area. For all these reasons, Emilio Moro is, without a doubt, a name that immediately suggests family, tradition and, of course, quality.
But Emilio Moro is more than that. Behind every wine there is a legend, and the story of the person who gives his name to this tempranillo is so endearing that it will make the next time you taste an Emilio Moro a special occasion.
The essence of Emilio, a man who left an indelible mark
“My father was a hard-working man from whom we learned the true meaning of the word family”. This is how Javier Moro, president of Bodegas Emilio Moro, remembered his father at the presentation of the new image and the 2021 vintage of Emilio Moro. A very special occasion in which family and friends gathered to pay tribute to a man who marked a turning point in the family winery.
At this meeting, his loved ones shared memories and anecdotes about ‘an incredible person who left a mark on those of us who knew him and whose memory will live on thanks to the legacy he left us’. His daughters, Rubi and Fabiola Moro, remember how their father used to gather family and friends to share one of his favourite wines, Emilio Moro. “It was him who taught us to savour every achievement and, above all, to share it with all those around us”.
In addition to his children, the fourth generation of Bodegas Emilio Moro also wanted to dedicate a few words of affection to their grandfather. ‘Emilio enjoyed walking around the winery and always did so with a smile on his face,’ explains Patricia Sánchez Moro, Bodegas Emilio Moro’s general manager. “But what he loved most was the countryside. Looking after the vineyard, picking the grapes… From him I learned everything I know today and I feel very grateful.” His eldest grandchildren admit to feeling very fortunate for all that their grandfather taught them and treasure as one of the most valuable lessons that Emilio shared with them that wine is an art, that, if you know how to listen, it speaks to us.
And this, listening to the wine, is precisely how Mario Sánchez Moro, sales manager in the USA, reminds him: ‘I can clearly see him in the dining room, in the dim light and in silence, enjoying a glass of wine alone’. This experience is also shared by Alberto and Héctor Medina Moro, sales director for the Americas and marketing director of the winery respectively. They describe him as a very approachable man, ‘but with character. He liked things to be clear, but always with humility and respect.” This is how Héctor describes him, as ‘a person with a gift, and that is that everything he told us touched our souls’. For his part, Alberto emphasises how far he has come in what his grandfather started ‘as a boy who was passionate about vineyards and whose dream was to have his own winery, his own wine’, says Alberto. “I feel a great sense of pride every time I have to present our winery. It is incredible to see how Emilio Moro’s name has reached so many corners of the world.”
Emilio Moro presents its new image
With its new image, Emilio Moro joins the work that Bodegas Emilio Moro has been carrying out since 2022 following its change of philosophy without losing its essence, but always seeking to offer the best quality.
Emilio Moro says goodbye to its old label and welcomes its new image in cream, with a new, more elegant typography, integrating the medallion and, finally, Emilio’s signature, just like the first labels of the family winery. In this way, Emilio Moro joins the design of the rest of the wines produced in the Ribera del Duero designation of origin, reflecting the great change and leap in quality that the Ribera del Duero winery is undergoing.
Emilio Moro 2021 is the perfect reflection of the tradition of Bodegas Emilio Moro
In addition to the new image, Bodegas Emilio Moro presents Emilio Moro 2021. The year was marked by mild temperatures in the spring, accumulated rainfall in April and a summer with slightly lower temperatures than usual, which slowed down the vines’ growth cycles. At the beginning of autumn, rainfall was scarce, encouraging the grapes to ripen, producing a wine with a strong character which combines power and balance with the rich nuances that characterise it.
Garnet red in colour with good intensity, the bouquet presents an interesting balance between the fresh notes of red fruit typical of the variety and the riper nuances of black fruit, coffee and spices such as vanilla and clove. On the palate it is balanced, easy to drink, while retaining its personality and a persistent, very pleasant aftertaste.
