    The wine

El Zarzal

2018 was a vintage marked by high rainfall and frequent storms. Luckily, disaster was avoided and the vines benefited from the abundance of water in the ground. Due to the high levels of wetness, exhaustive work was carried out on the vines in order to avoid the appearance of diseases. However, good summer weather, particularly towards the end of September, resulted in the grapes reaching exceptional maturity.

Tasting notes

Very light yellow straw colour. The nose is fresh and fragrant with notes of ripe white fruit and dry flowers without losing the typical minerality of the variety. In the palate, it maintains its freshness and it is very pleasurable to drink thanks to well-balanced acidity and alcohol.

Elaboration

Fermented in 2,500L French oak barrels at controlled temperatures with subsequent ageing sur lie for 8 months.

La Revelía

2017 has been an atypical vintage fom the offset, with abnormally high temperatures at the beginning of spring which caused early budding. The most notable weather anomaly was the early frosts without a doubt at the end of April that affected many vineyards reducing considerably their production. Summer arrived hot and dry helping to regularise the plants which thanks to the low production did not suffer excess water stress. The grape harvest was gradual with a notable difference between the vines located in different areas. In any case, the health of the grapes was excellent.

Tasting notes

with a pale golden color the wine is presented with very intense aromas, full of nuances, where the varietals of Godello stand out like fresh stone fruits and subtle citrus and herbaceous. Once it develops, we can appreciate the great aromatic potential of this wine, the fruity aromas gain complexity and show hints of dried flowers and light toasted. In the palate is broad and well structured, with a long and balanced adicity.

Elaboration

Fermented at a controlled temperature in 500l French oak barrels, followed by ageing on lees in the same French oak barrels for 8 months.

Vendimia Seleccionada

TO REMEMBER AND HONOUR THE HISTORY AND TRADITION OF BODEGAS EMILIO MORO

Each year, the best terrain on which we work to make Emilio Moro will be used to bottle Vendimia Seleccionada (Select Harvest), a wine made using grapes selected from the La Mira terrain.

Tasting notes

Black cherry red in the glass, good depth. The nose is intense and complex, dominated by notes of black fruit and the Tinta Fina variety at its optimum ripeness. The backdrop offers notes of fine wood, balsam, spices and the toast. The mouth is fleshy and big, with persistent, sweet tanning and a long finish.

Elaboration

Made using grapes selected from the La Mira terrain, which has a clayey soil and is situated at 900 m above sea level. Fermented at controlled temperature and aged in American- and French-oak barrels (50-50) for 12 months, combining the use of new and second-year oak.

La Felisa

OUR ORGANIC WINE AND A TRIBUTE TO OUR MOTHER

The 2017 has been an atypical vintage, with abnormally high temperatures at the beginning of spring that caused an early sprouting. Undoubtedly, the most prominent meteorological accident was the frost at the end of April that affected many vineyards in the Ribera del Duero and considerably reduced their production. The summer came dry and hot favoring the regularization of the plant that thanks to the low production did not suffer excessive water stress. The harvest was early, dry and hot, which guaranteed an exceptional health status and optimum maturity rates.

Tasting notes

At first it highlights the density of color, a very deep layer and ripe cherry red color very bright. In the nose dominate the aromas of fine red wine in its purest and primary version, with hints of black fruits, violet and licorice. There are also pastry notes such as toffee and vanilla. In the mouth it is intense, with a marked but mature tannin and a long aftertaste.

Elaboration

18 days maceration with the skins. This is an organic wine without added sulfites, made with organic grapes which maintains all the beneficial attributes of red wine, such as, tannins, anthocyanins and antioxidants.

THE ESSENCE THAT EXPRESSES A WAY OF LIFE

A wine that satisfies the most demanding quality requirements from Bodegas Emilio Moro. It has limited production of 1,000 bottles (aprox).

Tasting notes

This wine reaches the highest levels of quality in Bodegas Emilio Moro, paying homage to the "TINTO FINO CLONE" which is the winery's greatest asset. The sub-soli and micro-climate of the "Cornalvo", "Camino Viejo" and "La Mira"plots represent the three soil types of Ribera del Duro (clayey, chalky and rocky) and the aging takes place in exclusive barrels, designed to respect the aromaof the fruit and the land from which it comes, resulting in a wine that fo us, is an expression of TRADITION, CHARACTER and PASSION. Intense cherry red with a violet rim, on the nose elegant, expressive and with great finesse. The 2014 vintage achieves a perfect balance between the elegance of the soils, varietals and ageing . All of this enriched with nuances of the finest oaks enhance the expression of this great wine. In the mouth intense, silky and well balanced with a long and persistent aftertaste.

Elaboration

26 days maceration in small capacity vats, malolactic fermentation and ageing for 15-20 months in limited edition French oak barrels.

Malleolus Sanchomartín

TERROIR WITH AROMATIC PERSISTENCE, EXPRESSIVE AND VERY PERSONAL

Malleolus de Sanchomartin is one of the top wines of Bodegas Emilio Moro. It finds its home in the vineyard of Sanchomartin, a vineyard that is more than 65 years old. On the label we can see Emilio Moro in the barrel room, showing the result of one of the first vintages of his wine.

Tasting notes

An intense deep cherry red color. On the nose complex and quality aromas very characteristic of this wine, the best vintage in the last ten years. The tempranillo varietals are perfectly integrated in the ensemble of this wine due to ageing in fine oak barreis. On the palate it is powerful and persistant with silky sweet structured tannins. A long and persistant aftertaste.

Elaboration

Elaborated with grapes selected from the Sanchomartin vine plot, situated in Pesquera de Duero at 875 metres above sea level. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barreis, ageing in French oak barreis during 18 months.

In 2015, Decanter magazine recognized Malleolus de Sanchomartin as the “Best wine in the Ribera del Duero” and at the same time acknowledged the winery as one of the leaders in the D.O. Malleolus de Sanchomartin is frequently featured in the ranking of the top wines in the Ribera del Duero by magazines such as Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusiast and Wine Advocate.

Malleolus Valderramiro

A TERROIR OF GREAT BALSAMIC INTENSITY AND UNCTUONSNESS

An extraordinarily rainy year, with a spring marked by the high temperatures that favored the vegetative development of the vine. During the summer there were slightly higher than average temperatures and little rain, but thanks to the cool nights the vines did not suffer stress which greatly favored the complete aromatic and polyphenolic maturity. The benevolence of the climate led to an early harvest, which prevented the October rains from compromising the health of grapes.

Tasting notes

Intense dark red cherry very covered, in the nose it presents intense and complex aroma, typical of this wine that once again brings us to the bottle the best of our oldest "majuelo". The aromas ofthe most genuine Tempranillo are the protagonists, matured and enriched in nuances by their aging in noble woods. In the palate it is opulent, silky and poweful, with a long and persistent afertaste.

Elaboration

Made from the selection of Valderramiro grapes located in Pesquera at 859 meter or 2808 feet masl. The alcoholic fermentation has been carried made out in stainless steel tanks of small size at controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation has taken place in American oak barrels while the aging has been carried out for 18 months in French oak barrels.

Malleolus de Valderramiro has been recognized by Wine Enthusiast as the 7th best wine in the world in their issue “Top 100 Cellars of the World 2005”, with 97 points. The Spanish economic journal Expansión considers it as the 3rd “Best wine in Spain”.

Malleolus

EXPRESION OF THE TINTO FINO VARIETY

Malleolus wines allow Emilio Moro winery to stand out as a winery with its own identity produced from vines of between 25 to 25 years old, this wine marks a turning point for the winery. Malleolus means “majuelo”, the Spanish word for the Ribera del Duero vineyards.

Tasting notes

Intense cherry red color very covered. Malleolus 2016 has known how to take advantage of a vintage as balanced as 2016, the aromatic palette, of great complexity and harmony, is starred by Tempranillo varietals with the unique personality of our oldest vines and the nuances of such a special vintage. In the palate it has a great presence, of great volume and silky tannin. The balance between the acidity, the alcohol and the structure is the main protagonist in this wine. Long and persistent after-taste.

Elaboration

100% Tinto Fino grapes. It macerates with the skin for 18 days. After malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels, it ages for 14 months in Allier French oak barrels.

Awards

Malleolus is one of the most internationally recognized wines and it has been awarded several gold medals. In 2015 it was included in Wine Enthusiast’s “Top 100 wine” list, ranking 65th.

Emilio Moro

A REFERENCE TO THE SPIRIT OF THE RIBERA DEL DUERO

This wine, bearing the name of its creator, is the alma mater of the winery. Since the 1998 harvest, this brand has been used to refer to wines elaborated from vineyards aged between 12 and 25 years, although Emilio Moro was previously used for crianzas and reservas.

Tasting notes

Elegant and subtle, a low production volume which has brought out the best essences of the grape. It’s a powerful, balanced wine with exceptional elegance. The aromas of Tempranillo have been refined through the ageing process and it has notes of wood in the background and the personality of the variety. In the palate, it is a reflection of the nose: strong and powerful with mellow and refined tannins.

Elaboration

Elaborated from grapes from vineyards of between 12 and 25 years of age. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with subsequent ageing in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

Awards

This wine has been awarded 90+ points by the most important rating magazines in the world. It also earned a spot in Wine Advocate Magazine (2010) as one of the “Best 100 wines from Spain” and the second place of the “Top 9 Spanish wines” classification by Gregory Pal Píaz, among others.

Finca Resalso

THE EXPRESION OF OUR YOUNGEST VINEYARDS

Finca Resalso is the name of a historic vineyard planted in 1932, the year Emilio Moro was born. This wine, made with the grapes of our youngest vines (5 – 12 years) bears its name.

Tasting notes

Red cherry color with a violet rim. On the nose it is extraordinarily expressive and and fresh, unique characteristics from the Tempranillo variety. On the palate it shows well structured tannins and balanced acidity with a long, warm and lasting finish.

Four months in French oak barrel.
