Created with the aim of becoming a focal point, Bestizo is a wine that reflects our passion for the land and the drive of the fourth generation of our family towards new horizons.
points
Bestizo was born in 2024 with the aim of becoming a focal point for those who want to enjoy a wine while sharing unique moments. A wine born from the knowledge acquired from our long experience making red wines in Ribera Del Duero and from our deep respect for El Bierzo, Bestizo is the first red wine of Bodegas Emilio Moro El Bierzo and highlights the Mencía grape as a symbol of our evolution and makes it clear that more and more we are becoming Bercianos.
Bestizo originates from our vineyards in Villafranca del Bierzo, where the temperature and altitude play a fundamental role in the quality of the wine. The north-west orientation and the hillside location are particularly beneficial in a high rainfall area such as this, as they allow for optimal natural drainage, avoiding the accumulation of water in the lower areas and ensuring a more controlled water supply. These conditions create the ideal balance for Bestizo to express all the fresh and fruity character of the Mencía grape.
Bestizo is made from Mencía grapes. Fermented for 7 days in 25,000L tanks with a 12-day maceration. It is produced with a submerged cap, with no pumping-over. It undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks and is subsequently aged for 8 months in 2,500 L foudre until it is bottled.
Cherry red in colour, the bouquet is fresh and elegant, with a predominance of red and stone fruit: peach and cherry. It also has delicate spicy and floral notes. On the palate it is light and balanced, with a pleasant passage full of personality, with a medium and very pleasant aftertaste.

The spring of 2024 was marked by abundant rainfall and moderate temperatures, which required great care to prevent the onset of vine diseases. In summer, the rains ceased and temperatures rose significantly, leading to early ripening. Combined with the strong vegetative development of the first months, this resulted in an early harvest with excellent potential.
