Malleolus de Valderramiro 2014

AN UNCTUOUS TERROIR OF GREAT BALSAMIC INTENSITY

A wine that has been elaborated to make the terroir the protagonist. I has been elaborated with grapes from Pago de Valderramiro, planted in 1924, which together with Resalso vineyard make up the genetic reservoir for Bodegas Emilio Moro.

 

Details of the harvest

An extraordinarily rainy year, with a spring marked by the high temperatures that favored the vegetative development of the vine. During the summer there were slightly higher than average temperatures and little rain, but thanks to the cool nights the vines did not suffer stress which greatly favored the complete aromatic and polyphenolic maturity. The benevolence of the climate led to an early harvest, which prevented the October rains from compromising the health of grapes.

History & tasting notes

“Malleolus de Valderramiro” is made with grapes from the Valderramiro vine plot. The three vineyards in this were planted in 1924. The yield from these vineyards is 2,500 kg/ha and this wine is true to Ribera del Duero “terroir”. Intense dark red cherry very covered, in the nose it presents intense and complex aroma, typical of this wine that once again brings us to the bottle the best of our oldest “majuelo”. The aromas ofthe most genuine Tempranillo are the protagonists, matured and enriched in nuances by their aging in noble woods. In the palate it is opulent, silky and poweful, with a long and persistent afertaste.

Winemaking process

Made from the selection of Valderramiro grapes located in Pesquera at 859 meter or 2808 feet masl. The alcoholic fermentation has been carried made out in stainless steel tanks of small size at controlled temperature. The malolactic fermentation has taken place in American oak barrels while the aging has been carried out for 18 months in French oak barrels.
